Traditional Custodians

Meredith and Golden Plains are held on the traditional lands of the Wadawurrung.

Since 2013 we have met with Uncle Bryon Powell, who is a Wadawurrung Elder and a Board Member at the Wathaurung Aboriginal Corporation (WAC), trading as Wadawurrung.

The WAC represents Traditional Owner interests at all levels of government and community. They are the Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) for Wadawurrung country. The Corporation has a statutory role in the management of Aboriginal heritage values and culture within our region, under the Victorian Aboriginal Heritage Act, 2006.

Uncle Bryon has spent time with us on the land, sharing his knowledge. He has also spent time getting to know Mary, Jack and Chris Nolan at the farmhouse. We appreciate and respect the time we’ve been able to spend together.

We have also had the privilege of learning from and spending time with Uncle Barry Gilson, who, along with Uncle Sean, Uncle Patrick and Uncle Dale, performed a Welcome to Country and shared a smoking ceremony at Golden Plains Thirteen.

Good things take time.
